Typical stave-church construction can be seen a bit better here. Top and bottom lintels bridge the space between two giant pillar-like staves at either end of the wall to create a frame. The lintels are grooved, so that wedge-shaped slats of wood can be slid in along them to create the wall. The slats lock into one another, like tongue-in-groove paneling. The whole thing sits atop a stone foundation to prevent rot.
