Outside, the choir members served us coffee and saffron buns, which are another holdover from paganism. The color and the swirling shape represent the sun. The buns are sometimes called “lussekatter,” meaning “Lussi’s cats.” I suspect this refers to the pagan witch Lussi being represented by her familiar, a cat. Hence the two raisins in each bun, which are the cat’s eyes.
