Along the pulpit’s carved railing, lizards of light (good) wage war against frogs of darkness (evil). The three-lobed curlicues rolling up the stairs beneath the frogs symbolize the Trinity, while the four-spoked curlicues rolling down symbolize the four seasons and four cardinal directions.
