Jumping out of the 17th century for a minute, the Rijksmuseum also currently has a fabulous outdoor display of modernist sculptures by Joan Miró. (I love the juxtaposition of the almost primitive, free-form Lunar Bird against the rather rigid and sophisticated museum exterior. The gardens here are a great place to recoup after immersing yourself in dark Dutch Masterworks.
