Check this out: Bernardo Delle Girandole earned his apt nickname of “Buonotalenti” (good talent) because, like any decent Renaissance man, he was an architect, painter, sculptor, set designer, mathematician, mechanic, military engineer … and of course, concoctor of his own gelato flavor. (Seriously, he invented the recipe for this crema in the 16th century — it’s incredible; you have to try it when in Florence.)
