I mused aloud about what people did for a living in such small, seemingly isolated towns and whether they commuted by boat. Our waiter responded, “Banking, industry, tourism, and farming — there’s an expressway that circles the lake and connects everyone to bigger cities.” Turns out, the 20-something-year-old guy was Australian and spoke five languages fluently. Throughout the trip, he carried on lengthy conversations with various passengers in Spanish, English, Italian, German, and French. Seems like the UN could use someone with such incredible talent.
