Looking across from Valetta’s ancient Fort St. Elmo, you can see the modern resort town of Sliema. The tip of the promontory is crowned with the 18th-century polygonal Fort Tigné, but most everything else is uber-lux, new, and hip, including a shoreline promenade and a towering shopping mall.
