Michael Sima’s portrait of Picasso shows him with his pet owl Ubu, who he rescued and cared for after it landed injured in his garden. Ubu became the subject of many of Picasso’s paintings and ceramics. He felt that finding Ubu was a fortuitous event, considering the owl is the symbol of Athena, goddess of wisdom, and Antibes was founded by Greeks.
