Here, Emperor Theodosius can be seen surrounded by racing fans as he prepares to hand an olive wreath to the winning charioteer. His more practical servant stands by with the real prize — a sack of coins. The Latin inscription below says it took 30 days to erect the obelisk, but the Greek text on the other side says it took 32.
